George Heriot’s School
The Client
George Heriot’s School is situated in the heart of Edinburgh was founded in 1628 and is one of Scotland’s most distinguished schools, with a current roll of 1646 pupils and 235 members of staff.
Requirement
The Mathematics department is located within the Grade A listed section of the site and were undergoing a refurbishment project during the summer months which included decoration, electrical works and replacement of lighting.
DB Enviro were selected to Project Manage, Supply and Fit LED lighting along with rewiring and repositioning of the switches to allow for a modern upgrade however keeping with the grade A nature of the site.
What DB Enviro did
DB Enviro undertook a full audit of the mathematics department to understand the existing lighting quantities, fitting styles, and wiring.
In addition to replacing the lighting for LED, DB Enviro was also tasked to change the wiring and switches to allow for the lighting to be isolated from the front to back rather than side to side. With the classrooms upgraded to have projector screens for illustrating work, isolating the front lights would allow for better user experience.
Whilst the school became more energy-efficient, the new LED lighting reduced the heat output and has provided a much better and brighter classroom environment for both staff and pupils to enjoy.
Outcome for Client
Energy Spend before LED installation: £2,514
Energy Spend after LED installation: £664
